“The Census Bureau reports that the foreign-born population of the United States increased by 4.9 million between 2000 and 2005 to 35.7 million, or 12.4 percent of the U.S. population. While most new immigrants continue to settle in California, New York, Florida, New Jersey, Texas and Illinois, increasing numbers of new immigrants are settling throughout the U.S. -- they are going where the jobs are.”
