Armageddon is Islamabad
Riedel, Bruce
National Interest, July/August 2009, #102, pp9-18
"The article discusses the possibility of a coup d'etat by Islamic fundamentalists in Pakistan, and the history of Islamic militancy in the country. Topics discussed include the government-backed rise of jihadist groups during the war against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, the likelihood of Sunni-Shia violence in the event of a militant takeover of Pakistan, the global effects of a nuclear-armed state controlled by Islamists, and relevant U.S. foreign policy options."
Bruce Riedel, a former CIA officer is a senior fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution. He chaired an interagency review of policy toward Afghanistan and Pakistan for the Obama administration that was completed in March 2009.
