Immigration Fraud: Policies, Investigations, and Issues
Wasem, Ruth Ellen
Congressional Research Service (CRS), Library of Congress, May 17, 2007, online edition, 20p
"Immigration fraud is reportedly widespread. Since there are approximately 12 million illegal aliens in the U.S., it is assumed that many are committing document fraud. There are two types of immigration fraud — immigration-related 'document fraud' and immigration 'benefit fraud.' This report provides an overview of the integrity of immigration documents, and the ability to reduce immigration fraud 'that underlie the bigger issue of comprehensive immigration reform legislation.'” Ruth Ellen Wasem is specialist in immigration policy in the domestic social policy division.
