"The article focuses on issues arising from the proposed reform of the U.S. immigration policy. Partisan divisions have emerged in the House Judiciary Committee which will have primary jurisdiction over any immigration legislation. Iowa Representative Steve King argues that true assimilation of illegal immigrants is impossible because giving them any sort of legal status could affect the rule of law. The White House plans to offer permanent legal status to undocumented residents and is aligned with groups that support them." Thomas Edsall is a contributing writer to the National Journal.
